Obituary for William "Bill" Winistok

William "Bill"  Winistok
WINISTOK: Dr. William Winistok - known as Bill or Willy, was born December 20, 1942 in Alonsa, Manitoba before settling in Portage la Prairie with his father and sister Judy. Upon finishing high school he furthered his education at United College, Winnipeg, before going to the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Medicine. He further did two years of general surgery in Winnipeg and Calgary before obtaining his Fellowship in Urology from Western University, London, Ontario in 1972. He then moved to Windsor, Ontario, where he opened his Urology practice. In 1974, Bill married Janice MacDonald and it was in Windsor where both John and Eileen were born. In 1981, the family moved to Brandon, Manitoba in essence moving back home and in 2012 Bill received the Meritorious Award by the Brandon Medical Staff. He continued to be active in the medical community up until this year. Bill is survived by his wife Janice; son John; daughter Eileen and son-in-law Joe Schmidt and his very precious granddaughters Auden and Emery; his sister Judy (Ed) Glowa and his nephew Kelly (Lauren) Glowa. Bill was at home with his family on Thursday, December 22, 2016 when he went to be with the Lord, after a brief battle with cancer. A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Bill's Life took place at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Pastor Darryl McAuley officiated. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. As a family we would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Sonny Dhalla for his professional care and his friendship, to Dr. Johan duPlooy for his excellent care and Dr. Benade. Thank you! Also to the staff of the operating room and the outpatient wound clinic again thank you for everything. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or to the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church Building Fund, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, MB R7B 2H6.
