Obituary for Garnet Leslie Smith

Garnet Leslie  Smith
Peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2017, Garnet Leslie Smith, age 97, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born January 4, 1920, Garnet was raised in Brandon along with his seven brothers and sisters. He attended Alexander Elementary School and Brandon Collegiate Institute. Garnet worked as a salesman at P.A. Kennedy Furniture and Mr. B's Furniture. In retirement he spent many years volunteering for Christmas Cheer and Meals on Wheels. Avid travelers, Garnet and Kaye took numerous trips to Europe, Alaska, California and spent many winters in Victoria, BC. He enjoyed dancing and gardening and was known for having a great sense of humour. Garnet will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 73 years, Kaye; children Don, Dick (Marie), Randy (Karla) and Tricia (Rod); grandchildren Grant, Jen, Ann-Marie, Sara, Ryan, Evan, Chris and Holly; eight great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild and his brother Ken (Jinx). He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. The Funeral Service took place at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Monday, April 3, 2017 with Rev. John Dolloff officiating. A reception followed at the church. Donations in memory of Garnet may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
