Obituary for Wilma Grace Lawson (Juckes)

Wilma Grace Lawson (Juckes)
Wilma G. Lawson (nee Juckes) passed away with family and friends by her side on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Wilma was born in Hamiota, the youngest daughter of the late Emma and Bryan Juckes. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Lawson, 3 sisters: Lillian, Bettina and Shirley and brother Bing. Left to mourn her passing are her sister-in-law and friend Wilda Juckes, several adored nieces and nephews and 4 step-children: Gordon (Phyllis) Lawson, Marilyn Walorny, Judy (Terry) Finch, Bob (Gail) Lawson and their families.

Wilma took all her schooling in Hamiota, moved to Brandon to work in the insurance industry and then enjoyed many years in Winnipeg working for the Roblin government as a Minister’s Assistant. Marrying Doug meant a return to Brandon to enjoy a close circle of friends, wining, dining and supporting Doug in his volunteer position with the Keystone Centre and Exhibition Board. For almost 45 years, Wilma and Doug opened their hearts and home to extended family both in Brandon and at Clear Lake.

Wilma spent almost 30 years volunteering at the Brandon Regional Hospital, mostly in the Breast Screening Program in tribute to the care she received as a breast cancer survivor and made lasting friendships there.

Thank you to the staff at Riverheights Terrace these past 5 years and thank you to Ruth Anne and Jamie Rudack and Gordon and Phyllis Lawson for their special attention. On behalf of the Lawson and extended Juckes’ families, we would like to thank the wide circle of friends for their love and support to Wilma. Special mention to Sharon and Bob Springer, Lorna McKenzie, Carol MacLaughlin and Debbie Rey. Wilma’s friends are extraordinary and their love and friendship is comforting and inspiring. To honour Wilma, wear pink and invite a friend to lunch.

A private celebration will take place at a later date.
