Obituary for Earl David McPhee

Earl David McPhee
On Wednesday, December 28, 2016, Earl David McPhee, treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at the age of 68 years. Born August 10, 1948 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Ellen and Dave McPhee, Earl attended school in Regina and Virden before his family settled in Brandon in 1962 where he attended Harrison High School. In the 60's and 70's, Earl worked in a few different industries and owned his own semi trucks before landing a position with C & C Construction as a Superintendant. He remained with C & C until disability forced his early retirement. Working tirelessly to help others, Earl was a guy you could depend on and he would do anything for you when he was healthy. He enjoyed travel, visiting Scotland, England, France, Mexico, Cuba, New York and Las Vegas. Most summer weekends would find Earl and Patty happily settled in their cozy cabin at Oak Lake Beach, surrounded by family and friends. A comic with no filter, Earl will be remembered most for his quick wit and edgy humour. No one was exempt from being the victim of his constant jokes, teasing and pranks. His friendly banter and the laughter he produced will be missed by everyone he knew. Earl fought a long and tough battle with kidney disease. He was given an incredible gift and was always thankful for the extension to his life, when his niece, Danielle Down, donated one of her kidneys in 2001. Remaining to cherish Earl's memory are his much-loved wife Patty Wallace; daughter Tara (Gary) Roberts of Victoria, BC and granddaughters, Ellen and Kate; son Drew (Tess) McPhee of Brandon, MB and granddaughters, Piper and Pressley; sisters Bonnie (Bill) Down and Lori (Doug) Farough and sister-in-law Judy McPhee. He is also survived by Patty's sons Tyler (Denise) Wallace and their daughter Dana, and Kurt Wallace (Bretta Turchinski); Patty's sisters and their families, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a network of dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Dave and Ellen and his brothers Glen and Barry. The Ceremony to Celebrate Earl's Life took place at Central United Church on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Rev. Chris Arthur officiated. The family wishes to thank Dr. Barry Riche, Dr. Tyler Tegg and the staff at the Brandon Regional Hospital for their compassionate care during repeated medical crises. Donations in memory of Earl may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, PO Box 20077, Brandon South Post Office, Brandon, MB R7A 6Y8.
