Obituary for Zella Mildred Twigge

Zella Mildred Twigge
Twigge, Zella Mildred:
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of this very special Lady during the early hours of the morning on Thursday July 21, 2016 at the Personal Care Home in Rivers, MB. Zella was born in Rivers, 96 years ago, on March 13, 1920 and was the only surviving child of Charlie and Maggie (Brown) Bell. She enjoyed 45 years of marriage to Bob Twigge until his untimely death in 1985 and was a very proud mom of Maybelle and Barry. Zella was a stay-at-home mother and wife for the first 15 years of her marriage then started her career at Berg’s General Store, moving on to the Rivers Hospital and finally spending the last twenty years with the Post Office where she retired from in the early 80’s. Zella had a great love for music and could often be heard playing either the piano or organ. She and Bob loved to dance and frequently travelled, often camping along the way. Zella was also a great supporter of the Rivers Pipe Band, and was especially proud of Barry who was a side drummer in the band. When she wasn’t watching curling or the Blue Jays baseball on TV, she enjoyed watching the birds outside her window and made sure the feeders were always full. Zella was a 74 year member of the Rebekah Lodge as well as a charter member of the Rivers Legion Auxiliary. A very Christian and caring lady, she was a lifelong member of the United Church and a life member of the UCW. She is survived by her children: Maybelle (Ellard) Chapleau Richmond, ON; Barry (Wendy) Twigge Moncton, NB; Grandchildren: Michelle Allen Brandon, MB; Leslie (Butch) Roquebrune Metcalfe, ON; Mark (Cathy) Belair Carleton Place, ON; Colin (Paula) Fitchett Toronto, ON; Jodi (Evan) Fritz Peachtree City, GA USA; Jennifer (Drew) Tower Moncton, NB; Step Grandchildren: Greg (Elke) Chapleau Kemptville, ON, Tammy (Chris) Ogilvie Stittsville, ON. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. Also left behind are many Brown family cousins and their families as well as nieces and nephews on the Twigge side. Zella was loved by many and will be dearly missed. We know that she is now in heaven and will be happily dancing with Bob and is smiling down and watching over those she left behind. Under the care of Memories Chapel in Brandon, a ceremony to celebrate Zella’s life was held at the United Church in Rivers Tuesday, July 26, 2016 with Reverend Glenna Beauchamp officiating. Following the interment at Pettapiece Cemetery, refreshments were served at the Legion Hall in Rivers. Memorial donations can be made in her name to the Rivers United Church - "Building Fund”, PO Box 444, Rivers, MB R0K 1X0.
