DYCK: Lois Elizabeth of Brandon, beloved wife of John (deceased), loving mother to daughter Dorine (Mark) Fowke and family and son Jack (Winnie) and family, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Lois was born June 25, 1928 in Herbert, SK. Along with her four siblings, she had a very happy childhood and young adulthood. Her uncle often spoke of her ability to draw the cutest little outhouses and create the most amazing backdrops for drama productions in her school. As a young child she also professed her faith in the saving grace of Jesus, and strove throughout her life to share this with others. Since her maternal grandparents lived in California, the family made several road trips to visit them. Their Chandler was loaded to the hilt with food, canned chicken and bedding for their month-long journey. They often bunked in less than pristine accommodations and on at least one occasion, slept under the stars in the Nevada desert (not by choice!). After high school graduation, Lois attended Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg, earning a diploma in Sacred Music. It was there she met John. They were married in 1950, right after harvest and took over the family farm near Boissevain, MB. In Boissevain, they were both involved in church and community activities. Mom was a long-time member of the Royal Dunallen Good Neighbours. She used her musical talents and training to teach piano lessons and prepare the students in Royal School for various performances. At home, Mom had the gift of taking five dollars’ worth of materials and making it look like she'd spent a hundred to spruce up our farm home. In 1971, Mom and Dad moved to Brandon where Dad pursued a career in Real Estate. During their Brandon years, Mom was involved in several different ministries. Mom was elected to the National Executive of the Gideon's Ladies Auxiliary. This was followed by many years serving in Christian Women's Club and Stonecroft Ministries. During this time she traveled extensively speaking at events and coordinating Friendship Bible Coffees throughout rural western Manitoba. After John retired from Real Estate, they moved to Kelowna, BC for nine years, where they made many new friends and enjoyed new experiences. They returned to Brandon to be closer to family. Mom and Dad loved times together with their family, delighting in their grandchildren's antics, freezing through football and soccer games, and just spending time with them. Family excursions to Waterton, Riding Mountain, or wherever and gatherings at special holiday times were always well prepared with lots of delicious food, crafts and hockey. Mom and Dad also reached out to people who had no family connections in this country, and the Takeuchis and Bizimungus became part of our family. To the end, Mom was sharing her love of Jesus with those who came into her room. She appreciated the excellent care given to her at the Assiniboine, and was quick to thank the staff, who grew to love and maybe even spoil her a little. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dorine and Mark, their children and grandchildren: Megan; Julian and Ania, Zosia and Tila; Curtis and Steffi, Niels; her son, Jack and Winnie, their children and grandchildren: Joe and Lanna, Kai and Aven; Marty and Chelsea, Gus and Maverick; CJ and Elise, Bea and Henry; Amanda, Amber. The Graveside Service will take place at Boissevain Memorial Cemetery on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. The Celebration of Lois’s Life will be held at Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church, 1525 26th Street, Brandon, on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in memory of Lois may be made to The Gideon’s, PO Box 3619, Stn.
