Obituary for Patricia Arlene Seekins

Patricia Arlene Seekins
SEEKINS: Patricia Arlene passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Fairview Home in Brandon, Manitoba.

Pat was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan January 22, 1938 and shortly thereafter was adopted by Joseph and Lily Seekins of Regina. She grew up in Regina in the north Annex and on Wallace Street where she and her sister helped their mother take care of “upstairs boarders and welfare babies.” She fondly recalled her childhood summers spent with her Grandma Seekins in Saskatoon. Upon the death of her mother when Pat was thirteen, she went to live with the Armstrong family on Argyle Street.

Pat married Ronald Robinson on October 5, 1957; although their marriage did not last to the very end, she remained devoted to him until his passing in 2011. Pat was also predeceased by her sister Constance Smigarowski of Calgary in 2016. She is survived by her four children: Laurie, Daniel, Steven, and Christine and by her eleven grandchildren.

An accomplished typist and clerk, Pat had many jobs that involved typing and record-keeping. Her dream job was to be a published author of short stories and poetry, and she was an avid journal writer for most of her life. Even after moving to Fairview Home, she continued to record the details of each day in her journals. During her independent mid-life she joined the Catholic Church and made new friends where she dined as a regular at her local Smitty’s, but her dearest companions were always her beloved cats.

Pat will be remembered for her curiosity and her sense of humour. She had a remarkable mind for names and dates and remained sharp to the end. Her final years were enlivened by the amazing caring staff of second-floor Fairview. Her last wishes were to have no funeral, and for her ashes to be scattered in the ocean.
