Obituary for Doreen Kilpatrick

KILPATRICK: Catherine Doreen “Dode” Belle (nee Orser). With sadness in our hearts, we announce that Doreen passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Doreen was born in Souris, MB on April 8, 1929. Doreen completed her schooling in Souris and taught school for one year in Rapid City before her marriage to William Gordon “Bob” on July 15, 1947. Bob’s work with the CPR took them to various places in Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan. After retirement in 1985, Dode and Bob moved to Pleasant Valley and they also enjoyed many winters in Mesa, Arizona. They returned to Brandon in 2001. Dode enjoyed curling, and especially when she and her sister, Norma- Jean, and other friends would dress up in costume to bonspiel. They had such fun! Doreen was an avid reader, Master Knitter and amazing seamstress. She was Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge in Brandon. Doreen was predeceased by her father Melville Harold in 1979, her mother Marguerite Alfretta (nee Watson) in 1978, brother Melville James in 1999, and her beloved husband of 72 years, Bob, this past August. Doreen will be lovingly missed by her daughters Susan (Glen) Mattice, Beverley (Barry) More, Barbara (Bob) Smith, all of Brandon, and Carol Savory of Regina; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one nephew and 6 nieces, and her only sister Norma-Jean Coates of Brandon. An informal time for friends to celebrate Doreen’s life with family will take place on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. in the Dining Room at Hobb’s Manor, 333 – 15th Street. We would like to extend a huge thank-you to the wonderful staff of A3 Palliative Care Unit and Dr. Kaiser, for the exceptional care and compassion they showed to mom. Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5 or a charity of choice.
