Obituary for Brent McDonald

Brent McDonald
McDONALD: Donald “Brent”, age 63 years, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019. Brent was born on November 23, 1955 to John “Stuart” and Nora “Jean” McDonald in Killarney, Manitoba and was raised on the family farm near Dunrea, Manitoba.

The family moved to Brandon in 1972 and Brent had several jobs in Brandon, including Assistant Manager for Consumers Distributing; it was while working at Behlen Industries that he met Melinda in 1979. On May 3, 1980, Brent and Melinda married and their life story began. They bought a bank owned, older mobile in Brentwood Village and lived there a very short time before purchasing their next of many homes.

Son Brady came into their lives on January 27, 1993 and oh what a joyful day that was; Brent fist pumped and did a little happy dance! Brent dedicated himself to family and this extended beyond Melinda and Brady. Just ask his brothers, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and sisters-in-law. If you were a close friend you were considered family, and you needed to be prepared for the teasing delivered with that saucy half smile.

Brent entered the auto industry with House of Datsun and began his career that he enjoyed and in which he was well respected. He moved on to European Auto, Binkley Motors, numerous years at Murray Chev Olds Cadillac and was the manager of Kia when they opened in Brandon. After a stint in real estate with Melinda, he returned to the industry where he said he was meant to be and started with First Canadian Group of Companies on October 12, 2005. This allowed Brent to travel throughout Manitoba working with auto dealers – a dream position for Brent. He continued to work for the company until he was forced to go on disability at the beginning of this year.

Twin granddaughters, Charlee and Miyah, were born August 2010, oh what a joy to us all! Brady also met Ashley Andreychuk who was welcomed into the family and who we proudly call our daughter-in-law. Brent was so proud and happy of your young family. He loved his time with everyone and was always there with a listening ear and his little bit of advice that always made the world of sense. He seemed to have that way of looking through situations and seeing how to make sense of things. He understood human nature and embraced it all!

Brent’s first cancer diagnosis was just before the twins were born and Brent’s determination to be a fighter just increased. He did win – he had years of being cancer free. The cancer came back and Brent fought the good fight and enjoyed life and continued living every single moment: lake life, campfires, family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law Velma Wagner and Jack Wagner, brothers-in-law Lance Wagner and Calvin Reidle.

Brent will be lovingly remembered by his wife Melinda; son Brady (Ashley Andreychuk); granddaughters Charlee and Miyah; brother Murray and his wife Sandy and their daughter Darby; brother Garth and his wife Laura Jean, their daughter Sharla Falkevitch and son Tyler; sister-in-law Marie Wagner and her daughter Teena Trotz (Bobby Cooper) and sons Justin and Bradley (Janine Wallace); sister-in-law Jackie Reidle; sister-in-law Laurie Wagner; great nephews, great niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Celebration of Brent’s Life was held at Central United Church, Brandon on Friday, November 8, 2019. Donations in memory of Brent may be made to Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or Brandon Community Options Inc., 136 – 11th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 4J4.
