Obituary for Alexis Joyce Lloyd

Alexis J. Lloyd

Shortly after 12:00am on October 31, 2019 Alexis, while being held by her boys Wayne, Jason and Geoff, sister Bev and cousin Marge, slipped away. Elvis’s “In the Garden” played softly.

Caregiver is how most people would describe Alexis if given one word to do so. She chose a career in nursing. She celebrated her 45th wedding anniversary this past June with Wayne, she was a supportive mother to her 2 boys, she was the doting grandmother of two grandsons, she crocheted and quilted items that kept us warm and dried our hands, she was always up for a good laugh, she was the friend we called in the middle of the night, she was the co-worker we depended on, she was always willing to listen, she was the person we wanted to travel with, and she was the one we wanted to scratch our backs.

For the past 39 months, she was a beacon exhibiting tremendous grace, determination, and hope. She seldom complained. She steadfastly looked to the future with optimism. She worried more about how our day was than what obstacle she faced; she remained the nurse but gave us the gift of taking care of her.

Alexis found her life’s work as a nurse. She graduated from Misericordia School of Nursing in 1972 before retiring in 2012. Alexis worked in Brandon for 14 years in both the ICU and Emergency. Upon moving to Winnipeg Alexis found work as an Occupational Health Nurse. She spent time at Bristol Aerospace, Boeing, T. Eaton Company before spending 20 years with the City of Winnipeg.

Alexis found her life’s purpose in family. She will be forever in the hearts of those she had to leave. The love of her life, Wayne. Her boys, Jason (Natasha) and Geoff. And her grandchildren, Landon and Julian. And Charley, who gave her light when she needed it.

The family will be celebrating Alexis’s life on Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Riverbank Discovery Centre, 545 Conservation Drive (off Kirkcaldy Drive across from the Corral Centre). Family and some invited guests will gather from 1:30 PM till 2:15 PM after which the family welcomes all friends to come and share in remembering Alexis. A light hot lunch and refreshments will be served.

Donations in memory of Alexis may be made to the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3
