Obituary for Robert Garden

Robert Garden
GARDEN: On Sunday, October 6, 2019 we lost our dad, uncle, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Robert Garden passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Center after spending a short time in hospital surrounded by family who loved and respected him. He was predeceased by his wife Edith Garden. Robert was born September 14, 1934 on the family farm in Guise O’ Tough in Aberdeenshire Scotland to William and Elizabeth Garden. Bob, as he was known too many, left school early to work on the family farm where his appreciation and love for gardening and animals began. In 1955 Bob joined the Gordon Highlanders, a large Scottish Military Regiment peacekeeping in Cyprus, for three years until returning to farming. In 1962, Bob with his wife Edith and infant daughter Angela immigrated to Canada in search of new challenges and adventures. They would be joined shortly after by Edith’s Sister May Yule and Bob’s best man Rob Yule, ensuring they would always have someone close by that could understand the broad Scottish accents. Upon arrival in Canada, Bob and Edith were again farmers for a few years before he started his new job at what would become the Keystone Center and a long-time career before retiring in 1999. Bob was a lover of sports supporting all 5 of his children through baseball, soccer and hockey. He played and coached soccer over his lifetime but his true love was hockey. Unfortunately for him, his beloved Oilers had not given him much to cheer about in recent years! Bob’s true passion was his lawn and garden where he always had the greenest lawn in the neighbourhood. He loved animals with a particular soft spot for all dogs. To relax he enjoyed fishing and laying in the sun. Bob leaves behind his children Angela, Jean (Don Weir), Malcolm (Roxanne), Graham (Christie) and Allan (Tammy). Grandchildren Sheena, Brittany, Tanner, Dean, Tyler, Haley, Gavin, Devan, Lindsay, Wyatt, Mackenzie, Camryn and Avery along with seven great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loyal hardworking proud man who never worried about himself and invested his time and energy into others. We love you and will always miss you Jimmy!! A private family graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5 or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, PO Box 20077, Bdn South PO, Brandon, MB R7A 6Y8.
