Obituary for Renie Eugenie Shaw (Bourgeois)

SHAW: Renie Eugenie (nee Bourgeois). Aunt Renie passed away peacefully at Fairview Personal Care Home on Saturday September 14, 2019 at the age of 93 years. Aunt Renie’s favorite song was “I Did It My Way” and that is how she passed away. Renie was born on October 30, 1925 in Rosenort, Manitoba. Her growing up years were spent in Sperling and Oak Lake on the family farms. Later she moved to Brandon to work cleaning homes and waitressing. She spent several years working at Mckenzie Seeds and later finished her working career at Brandon Jewelers. In 1947 she married her best friend Frederick Shaw and they had many happy years together. They did not have any children of their own, but their nieces and nephews were like their children. She loved her Poodles and Cat. Aunt Renie and Uncle Fred spent time traveling to see family, to Disneyland and Disneyworld and several times to Hawaii. Renie loved to help others and stay active. She was actively involved in the East End Community Centre, Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 3 Ladies Auxiliary and Parkview Pals. While involved with the community centre, she felt that there was a need for girls softball so Renie and a close friend decided that they would get the sport started in Brandon and many girls in the community benefitted from it. Aunt Renie was known by many East End Kids as “Mama Shaw”. She enjoyed watching girl’s baseball, curling, bingo and attending the meat draws at the Legion. Renie was predeceased by her husband Fred, mother, father, brothers and sisters and their spouses, 1 niece and 3 nephews. She leaves to celebrate her life a few cousins and many nieces, nephews and their families. We will miss her wit and caring ways. She has left us all with many happy memories. Aunt Renie was not a fan of flowers so in lieu of them, donations in memory of Renie may be made to Westman Dream for Kids Foundation, Unit 4-940 Princess Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0P6 or to a charity of choice. The Celebration of Renie’s Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. Private family interment will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. All friends and family are invited to the reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 3, 560-13th Street East, Brandon following the service.

Cherished memories are the gifts
that help to keep us near
to those who live within our hearts
when they’re no longer here
