Obituary for Nancy Ann Berg

Nancy Ann Berg
Nancy Ann Berg (nee Anderson), age 54 years, beloved wife of Howard and mother to Brittany and Jane, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Nancy was born June 4, 1965 in Calgary Alberta, the fourth and final child of the well-oiled parenting machine that was Orton and Jessie Anderson. One year later the family moved to Weyburn, Saskatchewan where Nancy took her first steps and promptly used them to make friends and get to know her neighborhood. A people person since day one, it was not uncommon to find her in a neighbor’s kitchen chatting away, any adult on the street happy to oblige her toddler self with cookies, tea, and conversation. In 1971 the family moved to Brandon Manitoba; the place Nancy would then call home for the rest of her life. She spent her childhood and adolescent years entertaining her family and friends with her unmatched sense of humour and developing her community spirit which would carry on through all her years. After graduating from Neelin High School, her talents for care and attention to the needs of others found a perfect match in homecare; working first at Hillcrest Place and then Prairie Mountain Health as a Health Care Aide. At the same time she found another perfect match in Howard Berg; the pair were married on October 5, 1985 and remained lifelong partners to each other 33 years later. The next few years held a focus of family for Nancy and Howard as they welcomed their two beloved daughters into the world; Brittany in 1986 and Jane in 1990. Nancy was a phenomenal mother and provided a never-ending wealth of love and support to her entire family, parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and even all the family pups. No one was left untouched by her fierce loyalty and devotion to her people, and Nancy kept the circle of “her people” large. She believed in the importance of community and acted on that belief not only by volunteering and providing outreach through community organizations such as Kiwanis and Relay for Life but also by knowing everyone’s name and story and never forgetting a face. It was this innate ability that allowed her to excel working in her chosen field as she became homecare resource manager, a position she held for 20 years. Nancy was the epitome of a good person who would do absolutely anything for the people she loved and whose powerful presence had a way of making everyone around her feel safe and protected under her wing. When her sister became ill last July, she was with her every single day until her final moments and still managed to never miss an opportunity to nurture and cherish her first grandchild Mackenzie. This was Nancy to a T; her heart was big enough for the whole world. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her and all those who were lucky enough to feel her devotion. Nancy was predeceased by her mother Jessie Anderson, brother Brent Anderson and sister Susan Anderson. Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Howard Berg, daughters Brittany Berg (Shawn) and Jane Berg (Brett), granddaughter Mackenzie Boyes, father Orton Anderson, mother-in-law Dorothy Berg, brother Jeff (Carole) Anderson, sister-in-law Melanie Anderson and their families, her extended family, as well as many dear friends and members of the community. Nancy’s family would like to thank all of her doctors, nurses and aids for their care and compassion throughout the time she spent in hospital. The Celebration of Nancy's Life will take place at Central United Church, 327 - 8th Street, Brandon on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Donations in memory of Nancy may be made to the BRHC Foundation - Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
