Obituary for Vera Eugene Wilding

Vera Eugene Wilding
WILDING: Vera Eugene. It is with great sadness that the family of Vera Eugene Wilding announce her peaceful passing at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, June 17, 2019. Vera was born on August 3, 1935 on the beautiful island of Barbados. She was the third of five children born to Chesterfield and Gertrude Depeza. Vera left school in 1951 when she became an excellent seamstress under the guidance of “Mrs. B”. She came to Ottawa in 1955 to take her LPN at St Vincent’s Hospital. Because of changes in the Immigration Laws, Vera had to leave Canada, so she relocated to Colchester, England to begin training as a Psychiatric Nurse. It was there that she met her future husband Richard. They were married on March 30, 1963 and had two children, Adele and Carl. The family immigrated to Brandon on October 31, 1966. Vera and Richard were both employed at the Brandon Mental Health Centre, where Vera continued to work until her retirement. After Richard moved to Winnipeg, Vera and Carl cherished a number of trips, including England, France and the U.S. A return visit to Barbados with Adele and travelling to Mexico with her dear friends Maxine and Rita, were trips Vera treasured. Vera had many friends in Brandon and beyond. Her joie de vivre and warm disposition touched everybody who knew her. When Vera’s dementia became incapacitating Carl took over as her full time care-provider, with Adele coming home from out west to help out when she could. Vera was predeceased by her parents Chesterfield and Gertrude; sisters Marjorie, Olga and an infant sister, and brother Sam. She is survived by her daughter Adele and son Carl. Many thanks to Dr. Stephan Engelbrecht, the wonderful nursing staff on Palliative Care at the BRHC and the wonderful workers from We Care and Home Care. It is so very much appreciated. The Celebration of Vera's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating. Reception will follow at Memories Chapel. A private interment will take place with The Rev. Chris Evetts officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Vera may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba - Westman Region, Unit 4B - 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2.
