Obituary for Gertie Omeljanow (Allard)

Gertie Omeljanow (Allard)
Gertrude “Gertie” Alphonsine Marie Omeljanow (nee Allard) of Brandon, Manitoba passed peacefully into the arms of her loving saviour on Friday, May 24, 2019 surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Taylor, Ontario on June 18, 1936 to Conrad and Antoinette Allard, Mom was always the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when she was around. She loved life and loved people. Wherever there was a gathering going on, there was Mom in the midst of it. Mom and Dad always had an open door policy. Everyone was welcome, whether for a cup of coffee and a visit or one of our Mom’s home cooked meals. Friday nights were always card nights at Paul and Gertie’s place and Saturday nights were always a night of dancing. Mom played many roles throughout her life; radio DJ, dental receptionist, farmer’s wife, bingo player, UCT member, community volunteer and a surrogate mother and grandmother to the kids at the Shilo arena, but the most important role she played was as a daughter, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family and friends were always very important to her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye. Left to celebrate the legacy of Mom’s love are her four children and their families: daughter Cindy Garden (Jon Janzen) and Avery and Camryn Garden; son Paul Omeljanow and Kendall (Brett Phillips), Tess and Rylan Omeljanow; daughter Wendy Omilanow (Don Mitchell) and Justin, Kayla (Joel Boyd), Jaden and Lexon Enns; daughter Marie Cayer (Alain) and Joshua, Angele (Rhett Ewbank) and Avalynn and baby Ewbank, and Cara Cayer. Also two sisters and one brother: Julie (Mike) Brewer and family, Diane Carriere and family, Andy (Cecile) Allard and family. The Celebration of Mom’s life took place on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Memories Chapel with Fr. Christopher Dubois of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church as Celebrant. Mom enriched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will live on in our hearts and in all the special memories we made with her. Donations in loving memory of Gertie may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation - Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3 or to a charity of your choice.
