Obituary for James Martin "Jim" Beedie

James Martin "Jim" Beedie, age 92 years, passed away at Valleyview Care Centre on Monday, May 13, 2019. Jim was born on July 10, 1926 in the R.M. of Winchester, Manitoba; the youngest of four children born to William and Cecelia Beedie. The family farmed east of Deloraine which Jim took over from his parents and continued farming for seven years. Jim and Dorothy Potter married on July 12, 1947 and had a daughter, Barbara in 1949. Jim worked at a garage in Deloraine prior to him starting a Dray business hauling coal in 1956. A job opportunity came for Jim to work and train as a psych nurse at the Brandon Mental Hospital which lasted for thirty years. After some time the relationship with Dorothy ended. In retirement, Jim was happy to head to Brock, Saskatchewan every fall and spring to help friends with seeding and harvest. In 1982, Jim met Iris Mitchell and for thirty years they enjoyed each other's company including time spent with Iris' family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed travelling across Canada and the United States. His musical abilities, especially with the fiddle, entertained many generations of people. Jim will be remembered for his amazing memory, quirkiness, talents and laugh, but especially his love for family. Predeceased by his parents, brother Bill (Glady), sisters Mat (Edward) Krauchi and Vi (Edward) Clelland, daughter Barbara Punton and special friend Iris Mitchell, Jim will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Deb (Dwayne) Webster, Chris (Megan) Lelonde, Terry Will and Ashley Will (Clay), eight great-grandchildren, Barb's husband Greg Punton, many nieces, nephews and extended family. A Graveside Ceremony will be held at Rivers Cemetery, Rivers, Manitoba on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3P 2T5.
