Obituary for Jenneth Anne Chatt (Staples)

Jenneth Anne Chatt was born in Bridport, Dorset, England to Tom and Olive Staples, September 30, 1935 passed peacefully on April 19, 2019 after a lengthy illness. She grew up with a sister, Joan, and brother Clifford. She met and married John Chatt before moving to Canada in 1955. John was a Flight Lieutenant with the RAF attached to the Canadian Air Force. The young couple moved often while their family grew. Their daughter, Terry, was born in Red Deer, Alberta while their two sons Rick and Sheldon came along while John was stationed in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. In 1963, John was killed in a training accident, leaving Jenny to raise the young family alone, thousands of miles from her family. Determined to succeed, Jenny became a pillar in the food service and hospitality industry in Brandon, with an amazing career that began at the now defunct Suburban Restaurant, then on to the North Hill Inn, and finally to retire from the Royal Oak Inn. Jenny was never a person to sit still; she became a dedicated volunteer giving time to the Brandon General Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and Nearly New Shop, driving for the blind, and in the Brandon Humane Society, serving until her illness in 2018. She was predeceased by her parents, brother and sister. She leaves to mourn her children: Terry (Rick) Carter-Squire, Rick (Marlene) Chatt, Sheldon Chatt; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Carter-Squire, Darrell (Dana) Carter-Squire, Ryan Carter-Squire, and four great grandchildren Chloe, Avery, Austin, Milo, along with family and friends in England. She also leaves her many friends and the love she had for the animals (humans) at the Humane Society. A Celebration of Jenny’s Life will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion #003, 560 - 13th Street East, Brandon. In lieu of cards, there will be a coin collection with proceeds going to the Brandon Humane Society.
