Obituary for Patrick "Pat" Allan Wagenaar

Patrick "Pat" Allan  Wagenaar
Patrick Allan Wagenaar, age 64 years of Wawanesa, passed away at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Pat, the only child of Bill and Mildred Wagenaar, was born February 28, 1955 in Toronto, Ontario. Pat's early years were spent on the tobacco farm in Norfolk County, Ontario. After the death of his father, Pat and his mother moved into Waterford, Ontario, where he resided until enlisting with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1979. Pat attended North Windham Central and W.F. Hewitt Schools for his elementary education, graduating from Waterford District High School in June 1974 as the Outstanding Male Student. Pat was a linebacker for the 1974 Waterford Redmen NCSSAH Football Champs. After graduation, Pat joined the workforce working primarily at the Domtar Plant in Brantford, Ontario, manufacturing asphalt shingles until 1979 when he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces as a radio technician. Pat married Elizabeth "Beth" Ann Marchuk on July 6, 1985 in Aldergrove B.C. and their son Richard was born on May 11, 1988 in Barrie, Ontario. Pat and Beth enjoyed 33 years of marriage until his passing. Honourably discharged after 20 years of service in 1999, achieving the rank of Sergeant, Pat then ran Shilo Cable, later joining Behlen Steel Manufacturers as a brake operator, until retiring due to ill health in 2017. Pat belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 123, Waterford, Ontario. He was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan and cheered for the Netherlands, FIFA Soccer team. An avid jogger who participated in various marathons over the years, Pat loved rock and roll music and reading, especially history. Pat is survived by his loving wife Beth; son Richard; mother-in-law Lorna Marchuk; sisters-in-law Debbie Ewald, Dianne (Mark) Clare, Dawn Neely, Shawn Marchuk and all of their families. Pat is also survived by his dog Bodhi - man's best friend. Pat was predeceased by his parents Bill and Mildred Wagenaar, father-in-law Richard Marchuk and brother-in-law Kelly Neely. The Celebration of Pat's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Monday, April 22, 2019. Arlene Robertson officiated, Urn Bearer was Richard Wagenaar and the eulogy was given by Mark Clare. Donations in memory of Patrick may be made to a charity of choice.
