Obituary for Gwendolyne Violet Vickers

Gwendolyne Violet Vickers
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Gwendolyne “Gwen” Vickers, age 82 years, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Gwen was born October 11, 1936 in Brandon. She attended Brandon Collegiate Institute where she met Orval, the love of her life, whom she married August 3, 1957. She was pre-deceased by Orval in 2017. Gwen is survived by her daughters Linda Vickers and Brenda (Bruce) Evans, grandchildren Dustin Harland, Nikki (Jacob) Stanton, Stephen (Erin Kiazyk) Evans and Danielle (Ben) Luff, and great-grandchildren Jack and Emily Stanton; niece Carolyn (Chris) Judd; nephews Bill Key and Lee Vickers; and many cousins and friends. Mom lived a full and happy life enriching the lives of others. She held a variety of positions with the Girl Guides of Canada and was recognized in 2017 for 60 years of service. She was a mentor and friend to many brownies, guides and fellow leaders. There were many guide camps, meetings and other events with Mom at the helm. She also delivered Meals on Wheels, knitted for charities, and more. Our family enjoyed trips together including California and Disney World, and our cottage at Clear Lake holds many fond memories for family and friends over 38 years. Mom enjoyed socializing over a game of bridge, crib, and board games as well as time spent on the lake boating and fishing. Mom hosted many gatherings there and at our home. Our friends were always welcomed into our home resulting in our basement being a regular hang-out. Mom relocated to Victoria Landing in 2017 where she quickly made friends, became part of the bridge and crib clubs and was very happy living there. The Ceremony to Celebrate Gwen’s Life will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 1011-5th Street, Brandon, MB on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jonathan Hoskin officiating. A reception will follow in the lower auditorium. A private family interment will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Victoria Landing, for the care they provided to Gwen. Donations in memory of Gwen may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5 or to a charity of one’s choice.
