Bruce slipped away peacefully to rejoin his beloved Muriel on January 7, 2019. Bruce was born August 12, 1919 to Walter and Wilhelmina (Cochrane) Nichol, the youngest of their three boys. His earliest years were busy with play, school and work on the farm. Sadly his mom passed away when he was just 14, and he left school to work full time to help his family during the depression years. In his late teens he met Muriel Hyndman at a dance and lost his heart forever. They were married October 30, 1940. Like so many young men of his generation, Bruce enlisted in the Canadian Army in March of 1941. An early posting sent them to Prince Rupert B.C. where their son Lynn was born December 5, 1941. July of 1943 he began his overseas service and spent the balance of the war years in Holland and Germany, finally arriving home in January of 1946. He was amazed to find that Muriel had been able to save enough money to pay for a small farm while he was overseas. They farmed for a while in the Hamiota district, where their daughter Brenda was born November 27, 1949, then operated a service station in McConnell, before Bruce found what was to become his life work in sales. He worked first as a travelling salesman for Ashdown’s, then in 1954 he accepted a job at the T. Eaton Co. in Brandon selling furniture and appliances. Many people still remember him from those years at Eatons. After his retirement from that position he enjoyed meeting new people during his years with Display Manitoba. Bruce and Muriel spent many happy retirement hours gardening, golfing, attending harness races , and visiting with friends and relatives. Bruce was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and in later years he enjoyed many activities and lunches at Seniors for Seniors. At the time of his passing he lived at Hobb’s Manor where he had made many new friends. He enjoyed the fellowship offered by the morning coffee group and dinner companions. He often remarked that he’d been blessed with good neighbours throughout his life. Bruce was predeceased by his wife Muriel, his son Lynn, his parents Walter and Wilhelmina Nichol, an infant sister, brothers and sisters-in-law Cecil and Wilma Nichol, Charlie and June Nichol, in-laws Ralph and Gladys Hyndman, Elgin and Eloise Hyndman, Beth and Fred Lambert, nephew Ron Hyndman and niece-in-law Leeann Hyndman. Left to remember him are daughter Brenda (Greg) Clark, granddaughter Angie (Chris) Veilleux, grandsons Todd (Ankha) Nichol, Bruce (Michelle ) Nichol and great-grandchildren Julianna and Adèle Veilleux, Bobbi, Brad and Kate Nichol, as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
