Obituary for John Hersey

John Hersey
On Tuesday, October 9th 2018 John Hersey passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 87 years.

John was born in Montreal, Quebec on November 21st, 1930 where he grew up until he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1952-1955 posted in Wainwright, Alberta and Shilo, Manitoba.

During his 36 years with the Manitoba Hydro he accomplished both his Journeyman Electrician and Power Electrician Certificates. He served his community in local church activities, Manhattan Beach Retreat and donated countless hours working and installing sound systems around the province. Wiring homes, heating and plumbing, security systems, mechanical rooms and troubleshooting, he was a problem solver extraordinaire. He fixed it all and became the “go to” for churches, family and friends. Mr. Maintenance! He loved to serve and help people, taking great pleasure in the “little things” in life.

John was infectiously good natured and left an imprint to live on in our hearts and minds, to give us inspiration, to do our best every day, to be good to people and keep a smile on our face!

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine, two children, Brian and Karen (Stan), sister Mattie Beck, brother Raleigh Hersey, grandchildren and great grandchildren that will forever cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Gail.

The Service to Honour John's Life was held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Bethel Christian Assembly. Pastor Ron Pierce officiated. Memorial donations in memory of John can be made to the Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre, PO Box 62, Ninette, Manitoba, R0K 1R0 or to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 3619, Guelph, Ontario, N1H 7A2.

A special thanks to our “extended family” and friends who have given us much support and encouragement and to Memories Chapel for their role in Honoring John Hersey.
