Condolences

Condolence From: Arlene Saito
Condolence: My dog Lucky was so spoiled by Janet who would stuff her with so many Milkbone cookies when we stopped in at her workplace! We sure missed our visits with Janet when she retired! I bet Lucky was waiting at the Rainbow Bridge to greet your Mom along with all the fur babies that she cared for and loved over the years.

Condolence From: Catherine Humphreys
Condolence: I am one of Janet's oldest friends --in more ways than one! We were born in the same year, 8 days apart. We grew up on the same block in Vancouver on Angus Drive, having met each other when we were about 5 or 6 years old. We went to school together for 9 years, until I moved to Spokane in 1961. I returned to Vancouver in 1963 to attend UBC and then my father and stepmother moved back to Vancouver in 1965. I visited Janet once or twice in '65 or '66, before I was married in '67 and then my husband, Barrie and I moved to Courtenay where he taught school for 2 years. In 1969 we moved to Toronto and have lived here ever since, well, in Stouffville actually, just north of the city. Janet and I kept in touch infrequently , but always on our birthdays: March 5th and 13th. I am so sorry I didn't call this year. I had a feeling when she didn't respond to my email on the 5th, that she may no longer be with us. Barrie and I drove across Canada 4 or 5 years ago and stopped in Brandon to have lunch and a visit with Janet. It was like old times! Aren't true friendships wonderful? We were most impressed with her love and care of rescued dogs and her interest in grave sites. Her dog, when we were young was "Tar Baby Charlie Clark," a lovely black spaniel: my favourite dog of all time! Janet's mother was very good to me. My mother died when I was 11 and your grandmother always had time for me. She also used to give me a spoonful of some delicious brown syrupy stuff that was supposed to be very nutritious - real treat! Did any of Janet's children or grandchildren inherit Janet's lovely red hair? I'm sure you know what a kind-hearted woman Janet was, and what a good friend. Please know that I am thinking of you at this difficult time.

Sincerely, Catherine Pike Humphreys.
