Obituary for Stephenia "Stella" Zielinski

Stephenia "Stella" Zielinski
It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Stephenia "Stella" Zielinski, at her home, Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon, on June 7th, 2016 at the age of ninety two. Mom was predeceased by her parents Michael and Francis and subsequently by her beloved husband John in 1978 and by her youngest son Steven in 2006. She is also predeceased by her brothers Adolph and Raymond; sisters-in-law Helen and Adella and niece Irene. Mom is survived by her sons Garry (Barbara) of Victoria, B.C. and Jerome (Marny) of Brandon, grandchildren Tara of Vancouver, Jonathan (Michelle) of Victoria, Dayna of Winnipeg and great grandson William of Victoria and great granddaughter Molly (Austin) and great great grandson Ryan of Moosomin, SK, as well as many nieces and nephews in Manitoba and BC. Mom was born in Poland and emigrated to Canada with her mother and two brothers in 1939 where they were reunited at long last with her father who had arrived many years before to homestead in Alberta. In 1945, the family moved to a farm in the Rounthwaite district. Mom and Dad were married in 1948 and in 1957 they and their young sons moved to our farm in the Fairburn district near Boissevain. Mom worked tirelessly for many years in her large gardens, milking cows and tending to her chickens and other farm animals. She was always in the kitchen feeding her three growing boys. Her dedication meant that her family always came first. After Dad passed away Mom left the farm and moved to her new home in Brandon which had fruit trees and where she planted a nice garden each spring. She was very happy here and immensely proud of her house and yard. Mom had a strong work ethic and even in her later years regularly returned to the farm to help Steven with many chores and her farm garden. Mom began to suffer from dementia more than fourteen years ago and although she had been slipping away bit by bit, the essential beauty and goodness of her character and spirit were never lost. Her gentle, generous nature and sweet shy smile and the love for her family and affection for all those around her remained to the very end. Our family is particularly grateful for the patient and tender attention and all the special care given in the past fourteen years to Mom by her nurses and caregivers at Valleyview. In our sorrow we will greatly miss Mom's smile but we will never forget the love she had for us and the countless good deeds she did for us. May she rest in peace and in the peace of mind that she so richly deserves. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on June 16th 2016 with Rev. Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu, Celebrant and interment was in the family plot beside Mom's late husband and son in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mom may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B-457 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2.
