Obituary for Darlene Ironside

IRONSIDE: Donna "Darlene" Ironside passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 8, 2012 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Darlene, the youngest daughter of Margaret and Albert Nicholl, was born on June 15, 1946 in Minnedosa, MB. Darlene received her schooling at Basswood School. She married John Evans in 1966 and was blessed with two daughters, Donna and Debbie. In 1981, Darlene married Ronald Ironside of Rapid City and was honoured to become step-mother to Sandra, Bruce and Gordon. Darlene began her working career as a Dietary Aid at Minnedosa Personal Care Home and later joined the staff of Fairview Home in Brandon in this capacity and later continuing her education to become a Health Care Aide at Fairview. Darlene also worked as a Health Care Aide for Home Care. Darlene loved doing cross stitch, knitting, crochet and crafts, which she gladly shared with her family. She found great enjoyment during coffee time with the "girls". Darlene was predeceased by her husband Ron in 1988, father Albert Nicholl in 1997, mother Margaret Nicholl in 2004, and special friend David Cleave in 1998. She is survived by her daughters Donna (Wallace) Anderson of Rapid City, MB and Debbie (Michael) Barwick of Eckville, AB; grandchildren Michelle, Nichole and Isabella Anderson and Kaila, David, Jerrit and Jayden Barwick; great-grandchildren Jordan Anderson Hillis, Taylor and Zachary Cumberland and Brody Smith. Stepchildren: Sandra (Dale) Wallace, Bruce (Heather) Ironside and Gordon Ironside, their children Ben, Derek and Melanie Wallace, Alexis and Lindsay Ironside and Crystal and Diane Ironside. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie Nicholl of Red Deer, AB, niece Kimberley (Dan) Brazinha and their children Tatiana and Diego of Penticton, BC. A special thank you to Betty for your care and support. Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 with Rev. Barbara Jardine officiating. She was laid to rest in Rapid City Cemetery. Donations in memory of Darlene may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - Manitoba Division, 415 - 1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.
