Obituary for John Harrlie Unger

UNGER: It is with great sadness that the family of John Unger wishes to announce his passing. His death occurred at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on Sunday, April 19, 2009, surrounded by his family. John was born on April 26, 1935 in Elm Creek, Manitoba to George and Elizabeth Unger, the fourth of eight children. He met his soulmate Helen Unger at the wedding of their siblings and they were married on November 4, 1955. Right to the end when Dad was alert, his eyes would follow Mom when she came into the room. When they were first married John was in construction and Helen cooked for the crew. This required them moving to wherever the work was being performed. One summer they moved 22 times. They purchased a home in Carman, Manitoba where they lived for five years. John went into business with his brother Neil at a Massey Ferguson dealership in Crystal City in 1966. The family lived there until 1972 when John started working for Mazer Implements and moved the family to Brandon where they lived to this day. Dad loved his family; believed in family and in the support of family. All events needed to be celebrated on the day of the event and always with traditional food. Dad continued with this practice right to date. He was predeceased by his son Brad, his parents, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 53 years (Helen Unger) and daughters Janice (Mark) Rankmore, Joanne (Brian) Mackie, Carol (Mark) Kindrat. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Steph (Chris) and Baby Josie of Hope, B.C., B.L. (Patrena) and Kole and Brooke Mackie, Shawn (Sheens) and Callie and Baby Ty Mackie, Dallas Unger, Darci (Bryan) and Baby Tia Bourdon, Tryna Kindrat, Joshua Kindrat, all of Brandon, Manitoba. The ceremony to celebrate John's life was held at Central United Church in Brandon on Saturday, April 25, 2009.

A cluster of beautiful memories Sprayed with a million tears, Wishing God had spared you But for a few more years. Thanks for the years you gave us And for the happy times we shared. We only pray that when you left us You knew how much we cared. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one Our chain will link again.

Love forever, your family
